Sleepover... Hotel Review: The Hyatt Regency aka The Churchill - LondonOne of my favourite places to stay in London is The Churchill Hotel and I think you will probably want to know why. After all there are many hotels, big and small, good and bad and mediocre in the environs of that major city.

Probably the first reason is the Quality of the staff that to me denotes caring and respect and service. A quality that is getting rarer and rarer these days being replaced with disregard and rudeness. Not so at The Churchill where caring service is a key action in their work. If you are fortunate to have a bedroom on the Regency Floor, maybe a few pounds more but well worth it, you will be greeted and pampered by the staff who preside there to help you with the most minute detail.

The second reason would be the quality of the actual hotel, the luxurious furnishings, the bed linens, the flower displays, the furniture, the list goes on and on. And behind the scenes, the smooth almost silent quality of a hotel being efficiently run by knowledgeable people.

Cuisine at the Montagu Restaurant is a delightful experience, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. In the masterful hands of the Executive Chef, Ben Purton, together with his young and most excellent sous chef, and kitchen brigade, each dish is well-designed and based on fresh local produce, fish and meat of which there is an abundant supply. The distinct cooking style can be observed in the skilful preparation of sauces, soups and other menu items whilst the wine menu encompasses many fine choices from Italy and France.

Sleepover... Hotel Review: The Hyatt Regency aka The Churchill - LondonThe menu at the this very comfortable restaurant which has, by the way, become a mecca for many of the local residents, changes seasonally and offers many choices. Starters include Parsnip and Cumin Soup with Bramley Apple, Oak Smoked Scottish Salmon with homemade Blinis and cream cheese or pressed Suffolk Ham Hock and Leek Terrine with Plum and Apple chutney – quite yummy! Definitely a must for locals and tourists alike is the deep-fried Cod and Chips with Tartar Sauce and always a treat is Roast Rump of Salt Marsh Lamb with honey glazed Turnips and Potato puree, or the Dover Sole Meuniere or Grilled. There are so many choices, you will have to return again and again. Lots of varied cocktails are offered and I won’t go into the sweets/desserts – surprise yourself when you go! The 2-course lunch menu runs for £19.50 with the 3-course for £22.50 plus a half-bottle of wine per head. The 2-course Dinner set menu will set you back £19.50, the 3-course is £24.50

Locatelli’s is the well known Italian restaurant also situate at the Churchill. This famous London chef is quite a character as I found out when I took a stroll down the alley at the side of the hotel and started chatting away with him. Being a lover of good Italian food, it was a most enjoyable chat and I hope on my return to have him impress me with his fabulous cucina.

So beat your way by plane, by car or even by that magical yellow submarine to the Churchill Hyatt Regency, you will be well pleased!
