Sleepover... Hotel Review: Cumberland Hotel - LondonIf you’re planning on going to one of the many events in Hyde Park this summer I can think of nowhere more convenient and pleasant to stay than The Cumberland Hotel. Conveniently located in Great Cumberland Place, The Cumberland is adjacent to not only Hyde Park but also Oxford Street and Marble Arch tube station which has got to be an advantage when staying in London.

Sleepover... Hotel Review: Cumberland Hotel - LondonThe lobby, when you walk in, is stunning; a massive area filled with some very unusual modern art which gives the impression that you have accidentally stumbled into a gallery by mistake, but look closer and in the far distance you will see the queues waiting to check in at reception, which is my only gripe about this hotel. Unfortunately checking in was rather an ordeal as there just didn’t seem to be enough staff to cope with the large volume of people trying to check in at the same time. Having said that, once we were attended to, check in was swift and efficient.

Sleepover... Hotel Review: Cumberland Hotel - LondonOur deluxe twin room, with views over Hyde Park and Oxford Street (work that one out!), was large and airy with great air-conditioning and effective double glazing which is a must in central London. There is a unique work of art in each room which is, luckily, a little smaller than the exhibits that are on display in the lobby! The twin beds could have been a little larger but were quite adequate for a short stay and the Egyptian bed linen was lovely and soft to sleep on. The modern bathroom has a large walk in shower which, once I’d worked out which knob did what, worked very well with good water pressure. Each room has the usual tea and coffee making facilities, flat screen TV’s, a safe and BT Openzone wireless internet access.

There’s a good choice of restaurants and bars within the hotel including the Michelin starred Rhodes W1 Restaurant which is well worth visiting for something just that little bit extra special and The Carbon bar which plays host to many top DJ’s from 4pm until the early hours.

Rooms range from £159 for a deluxe single room to £269 for a junior suite.
