City Inn Birmingham, BirminghamSleek, stylish and centrally located, the City Inn Hotel in Birmingham combines comfort and elegance in roughly equal measure. After winning the Best Business Hotel Brand 2007 at the Business Travel Awards for the second year running, I was expecting a lot from this hotel and fortunately it didn’t disappoint.

The hotel’s furnishings are light and contemporary and the rooms are well appointed with queen-sized beds, flat screen televisions and complimentary broadband internet access.

As for dining, the City Café restaurant boasts a fine selection of contemporary British cuisine. I started my meal with a mouth-watering salad of crab and mango – fresh and citrusy with a snap of ginger, this was a perfect little appetiser beautifully served.

The main course of char-grilled Aberdeen Angus rib-eye steak comes with café de paris butter and hand cut chips, to which I added side orders of braised red cabbage and sour cream plus roast root vegetables.

The chef obviously has a good eye as a well as a discerning palette, as each portion was cooked to perfection and presented attractively. I finished off with the pudding of fine pear williams tartlet and caramel ice cream, which left me feeling satisfied but looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu on my next visit.

The service in all areas of this hotel is exemplary. Attentive, friendly and efficient, the staff here ensures that your stay is a pleasant and comfortable one. So whether you’re a weary business traveller or a city-break weekender looking to explore Britain’s second largest city, the City Inn Hotel will cater to your needs.
