Win a meal for two at Kent’s ‘Best Gastro Pub’ - George & Dragon at Ightham near Sevenoaks
 The Culinary Guide is offering readers the chance to win a 3-course meal with a bottle of house wine, mineral water and coffee, at the renowned The George & Dragon in Kent.
Located in the heart of the picture postcard Kent village of Ightham, on the A227 nearly the junction of the M20 and M25, The George & Dragon dates back to the early sixteenth century. Popular folklore has it that it was here that Guy Fawkes's foiled Gun Powder plot was hatched. Engraved in the wooden Fireplace is the Duke of Northumberland's' Knot, said to be carved by the Duke himself when he was kept imprisoned in the old restaurant.
Today, this food led classic old English country pub, with low fires, low slung exposed beams and crackling log fires, has been declared ‘Best Gastro Pub’ in the prestigious Kent Restraurant awards in association with table booking website OrderOnlineNow.co.uk.
 The judges commented: “We were searching for Kent’s Best Gastro Pub – not a fine dining restaurant housed in a former public house, with a sorry excuse for a bar. Apart from Simon’s Brazier’s unique menu, artistry and exceptional cooking skills - we were struck by the atmosphere you only find in a an early sixteenth century, with period features, and a welcoming landlord and landlady embedded in the local community. Regulars coming in for a morning constitutional with their dogs, the friendly efficient service, crackling log fires and a decent pint were the final clinchers.”
The George & Dragon is no stranger when it comes to collecting awards. It was the winner of Shepherd Name Wine Pub of The Year 2008.
