News... Veggie foodies raise a glass to London Vegan Drinks - London Vegan Drinks at Tibits, MayfairThe troublesome rigmarole of scanning menus and scrutinising ingredients lists may be familiar territory for any dedicated vegetarian, but for vegans whose specialist diet also excludes eggs and dairy, dining out is nothing short of a minefield. Enter London Vegan Drinks – a new culinary initiative that, in partnership with vegetarian restaurant Tibits, is on a mission to provide vegan-friendly refreshments and gourmet delights served up in a friendly, relaxed environment for likeminded lovers of fine food and drink.

Founder of London Vegan Drinks, Sean O'Callaghan, explains “For our event, the key things that work really well are that, first and foremost, Tibits understand vegan food and vegan alcohol. Not many people know that a lot of alcohol actually contains animal products, but here the staff are so knowledgeable. They have flyers downstairs on the tables explaining which bottles of wine are vegan, vegan beer on tap, vegan wine by the bottle and then, of course, food options are labelled with a V if they’re suitable for a vegan diet.”

Veggie foodies raise a glass to London Vegan Drinks - London Vegan Drinks at Tibits, MayfairWith its low, crimson lighting and luxuriant, brocade-adorned furnishings, cosy London restaurant Tibits is an instantly welcoming establishment whose friendly service is rivalled only by its deliciously flavoursome menu. Presented in a self-service style array of main courses, salads, sides and desserts, the selection of vegetarian food on offer is almost bewilderingly varied at first glance, but with each vegan option conveniently marked V.

From onion rings to a much talked-about Victoria sponge (as kindly recommended by the chef in passing) the unique features of Tibits’ menu provide a rare opportunity to sample vegan-friendly versions of traditionally egg and dairy-dominated dishes. Washed down with an irresistibly smooth, vegan Cabernet Sauvignon, there’s no shortage of comfortingly indulgent yet wholesome mains to be had, with the likes of delicately spiced Lebanese Hotpot and creamy Vegetable Gratin boasting freshness and flavour in equal measure.
