Rich, rich, rich… and just for two

The white box was already sitting in the kitchen – waiting. Pop, pop, rip and ahhh went the packaging. Once past the CO2 dry ice, there they were – two of each: blackcurrant, white chocolate and ginger, and lemon meringue. The three cheesecake flavours from Donald Russell (from Scotland and by Royal Appointment) are a new addition to their extensive range of meat and meat products. We (by which I mean my immediate family plus my cousin from the US and her husband) relished these rich individual cheesecakes and were quite disappointed they were so small (I wasn’t – and I’m dieting…).
Mum and cousin Diane liked the white chocolate and ginger cheesecake (but I wasn’t quite so keen: if it had been just white chocolate, I’d’ve died and gone to heaven), my sister thought the blackcurrant had just the right balance of sweet and sharp (my friend Anthea thought all the cheesecakes were very rich but she did like the lemon meringue) and Mum & Dad – well, they were like: “Well, they’re very nice but we couldn’t eat these too often – got to watch that cholesterol…!”

I guess you would, given the richness of these desserts. Individually wrapped, these are good enough to pass off as your own (and I certainly would if I was pushed for time and had these ready in the freezer!) if you’re a good cook or gourmet host and given their small size, if you’re planning dinner for two, here’s an idea – cook that sumptuous three-course meal and just make sure that one of these cheesecakes is ready for dessert (spoons optional!) in the boudoir!
