With the volume of health information out there these days, most of us know what we should or shouldn’t be eating. Like the fact that sunflower seeds and oats are both good sources of dietary fibre and are therefore cholesterol-lowering agents.
So, as a chocolate lover myself, it was with zero guilt and heaps of expectation that I opened the brightly coloured wrappers and tried both varieties with one thought in mind: at last, a chocolate snack I can justify eating. The slices themselves are quite thin; the base is chocolate, the topping is exposed with thin drizzles of chocolate across it.
The first slice I tried was Granola (a mixture of rolled oats, nuts, dried fruits, and honey or brown sugar) Hazelnut & Raisins. At 110 kcal & 5.1g fat per slice I certainly won’t lose any sleep over it, but I might be kept up late trying to chew the rather dry granola topping. Imagine a rolled oats cereal without milk. The aftertaste was sweet, not particularly pleasant and it lingered much longer than I wanted it to.
Next I tried the sunflower seeds, hazelnut and raisins variety. As is often the case the one I liked the best has the most fat content and calories. But not by much; each slice has 115 kcal & 6.1g fat. The sunflower seeds were crunchy and they tasted great, I could identify the raisins and hazelnuts, and the slice had more moisture to it.
The chocolate on both slices was delicious, not overpowering and it complimented each topping well. I found that one was enough and didn’t feel the need to start raiding the pantry for another chocolate fix, as I so often do.
Cadbury Brunchbreaks come in a pack of six individually wrapped slices which are ideal for lunch boxes and picnics, and are available in all leading supermarkets at £1.79 a pack. |
