The Ready Meal Revolution

The Ready Meal RevolutionWhen most of us think of ready meals we picture microwave meals that are quick and easy to prepare, but that are also packed full of artificial additives and preservatives. Things may be about to change though, as a new company called ‘Love Foods’ champion a Ready Meal Revolution.

Even the ‘healthier’ ready meals have a list of ingredients that includes the likes of modified starch, pork gelatine, citric acid, sulphur dioxide and hydrogenated vegetable oil; alongside a whole host of flavourings. Meat meals often contain surprisingly little meat (usually below 10% of the meal) and more often than not the meat that is used is injected with water to make it look juicier than it is. Love Foods is hoping to change all this as they lead the way with the launch of their ‘Taste’ range of products.

Love Food ThailandLove Food IndianThe Taste range of ready meals, which includes Indian, Thai, and Chinese varieties, contains only 100% natural ingredients, no additives, colourings or preservatives of any kind, and is GM free; flying in the face of conventional ready meals. Love Foods have also taken things a step further and none of their meals contain any meat, fish or egg, opting instead for healthier soya.

Determined not to provide the customer with an inferior, over priced product, top quality soya was chosen due to the recent meat scares such as bird flu, cross contamination with other meat products, BSE, and cheap water injected meat. However, soya has enjoyed a slightly lukewarm reception in the UK, and has developed something of a reputation for being bland and boring .

Love Foods have worked hard to banish this image of soya with their Taste range, spending over two years refining the taste with their UK chefs that hand make every meal – a first in the ready meal sector. Each meal contains a whopping 90g of protein packed soya, which they are confident will transform people’s views and have them coming back for more.

Soya boasts a significant amount of health benefits to boot; as part of a low saturated fat diet, just 25 grams a day can help lower your cholesterol, and recent studies indicate that it might even help reduce the occurrence of breast and colon cancer too.

Love Foods hope that their products and attention to detail will show UK consumers and manufacturers that ready meals can taste great and be convenient without being packed full of additives, preservatives and cheap meat.

Love Food ready meals are now available in a selection of Thai, Chinese and Indian recipes in selected Somerfield stores nationwide.
