Something To Crow About!
A Cockerel Weather Vane, lost in a coastal storm some 25 years ago, now stands proudly in its rightful place, perched on a rooftop at the newly converted Redcliffe Farm Shop and Cafe, at Lebberston, near Scarborough.
Managing Director, Martin Brown, was delighted to discover the weather vane, buried in the rubble, when building work started on the conversion of the beautiful old farm buildings. Martin has since become so attached to the Cockerel, that it has now become the official ‘Redcliffe Farm Mascot’, and has been incorporated into all their promotional material.
The Brown family have successfully produced beef and eggs at Redcliffe Farm for almost 50 years, and with the help of Rural Enterprise Funding, Martin has created the first Farm Shop, Café and Bakery of its kind on this stunning part of the Yorkshire coast.
“There are no other dedicated farm shops in this area, unless you are prepared to travel to York, which is why Redcliffe Farm Shop and Café is so uniquely placed. “We can source the very best of Yorkshire produce, and of course all the beef and eggs will come from our own Farm. And being right here on the coast, the fish and seafood just couldn’t be fresher!” said Martin
Martin is sure that one of the main attractions for the kids will be the fabulous play area, constructed using equipment and implements reclaimed from Redcliffe and other farms in the area. Centre stage will be a beautiful old grey ‘Fergie’ tractor - late 1950s vintage - and an old ‘clinker’ rowing boat, originally from Bridlington Harbour.
“With the sea air sharpening the appetite, I can guarantee that the aromas from our artisan bakery will be hard to resist!” added Martin.
