NutriPlanIT is the brainchild of chef, David O’Malley and IT expert, Ian Hayes. “According to the FSA, 44% of people distrust the information provided on food packaging,” said Ian. “What NutriPlanIT does is to give control back to the consumer or food professional, so they can plan and control their nutritional requirements accurately.”
“There are other, similar websites available,” said David, “but they are based on predefined menus and recipes which tell the individual what they should eat.But NutriplanIT is different because it allows the individual to decide what they want to eat and then adjusts the content to match their specific dietary needs.
“For example, if you are someone who is concerned about fat intake, all you need to do is enter that information, then type in a description of your meal and the software will display the nutritional value in a bar chart. If the levels of fat in that meal are too high, the bar will turn red. You can then ask the website to suggest how that same meal can be prepared without such high fat levels.”
NutriplanIT was initially designed to help professionals cope with the increasing demand of different dietary requirements in the catering industry. Assisting with the preparation of food from the initial menu design through to post evaluation, the software also helps improve cost management and enhances transparency by providing detailed reports. As a result, it is ideal for food services in schools and nursing homes, but has also been of interest to health and fitness centres and gyms.
