Four New Piglets Arrive At Castleton House Hotel

Four New Piglets Arrive At Castleton House HotelPassionate about traceability, Castleton House hotel plays host to a menagerie of home reared animals, an extensive vegetable garden and is now delighted to announce the new arrival of four new Tamworth piglets.

The hotel is particularly proud of its Tamworth produce, which has become a firm favourite with locals.  The pigs are cared for on a premium diet of delicious, award winning apples from the hotel's orchard, home grown vegetables, all washed down with Strathmore spring water that naturally fills their water trough. Guests are also encouraged to wander the kitchen garden throughout the season and sample the fruits from apples and cherries to strawberries and raspberries.

This concoction of healthy eating and an environmentally friendly food chain are the long-term aspiration of hotel owners David and Verity Webster who are passionate about food miles and traceability and are therefore keen to reassure diners and guests that they know where their meat comes from.  Consequently, Castleton’s cuisine currently boasts the highest grading of any hotel or restaurant in the Angus area.

Rare breed pigs are a niche market and the hotel is renowned for its friendly Tamworths. They have long snouts, so are good rotivators, they can be wintered outside and, their thick red coats mean they don’t get sunburnt and they taste fantastic. Castleton are happy for guests to take them on walks through the woodlands.
