Restaurants Against Hunger Launch 2006 – ‘Fight Hunger. Eat Out’
Supporters of Restaurants Against Hunger gathered at The Chesterfield Mayfair Hotel on 6 September 2006 to celebrate the launch of this year’s ‘Fight Hunger. Eat Out’ campaign.
Aldo Zilli, Bill Knott, Tom Norrington-Davies, Sophie Michell, Nigel Barden, Glynn Christian and the Harden brothers were just a few of those that came along to kick start this year’s Fight Hunger. Eat Out campaign.
Mickael Weiss from Coq d’Argent who spoke at the launch, commented: ‘I always thought that I could not make a difference and therefore I should leave the problem for others to sort out, but what I had not realised is that every donation helps no matter how small. If the catering world doesn’t make a difference to ending hunger in the world, who will?’
When given the choice between eating well and doing good, why not do both? Choose from the hundreds of restaurants that are taking part in the campaign and make a real difference to the world’s hungry.
Restaurants Against Hunger involves food lovers all over the country. During October, restaurants will invite their customers to fight hunger simply by eating out. Participating restaurants will donate part of their takings made on selected dishes or invite you to treat children to a meal by making an optional donation when paying the bill. All funds raised during the campaign go directly to Action Against Hunger, which helps vulnerable families all around the world in their daily struggle to feed themselves and their families.
Today, hunger and poverty still claim 25,000 lives every day. A small gesture of £1 can make a huge difference, providing a full meal for five children in Zambia. As Pauline Llorca, Campaign Coordinator, said at the launch:
‘Over the last eight years, we have received the support from hundreds of restaurants as well as top chefs and food critics who have a social conscience and feel that together, we can make a difference to the lives of hungry children worldwide. We always need more support and hope that even more restaurateurs decide to join this year.’
