A Taste Of Sri Lanka In Kensington
Kensington’s swish Royal Garden hotel is bringing the unique taste of Sri Lankan food to the capital this summer. From 15 to 25 June, the hotel’s Park Terrace restaurant will play host to some of Sri Lanka’s leading chefs, who will showcase the island’s delicious fusion cuisine.
Publis Silva - a well known Master Chef in Sri Lanka - will be joined by two chefs from the world class Mount Lavinia Hotel. This year marks the bicentennial anniversary of this historic hotel, a national treasure and centrepiece of Sri Lankan tourism.
Guests at the Park Terrace, which overlooks Kensington Gardens and the entrance to Kensington Palace, can enjoy a buffet style dinner including Sri Lankan specialities such as Crispy Golden Egg Hoppers, Fish White Curry and Chicken Cajugama. To complement the meal, customary drinks such as Arrack (a coconut based drink), Sri Lankan beer and authentic Sri Lankan tea will also be served. The dining experience will be further enhanced by the restaurant’s themed Sri Lankan décor and the accompaniment of traditional music from the Island, as well as a daily cultural dance performance.
Lying in the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka is home to a multicultural population of interwoven ethnic and religious groups. Influenced by invaders over the centuries, foreign traders and colonialists, the cuisine is a delightful blend of the Island’s renowned spices and overseas recipes that gives richness and diversity to the indigenous cooking.
Graham Bamford, General Manager at the Royal Garden Hotel said: “We are really looking forward to welcoming Chef Publis and his team to the Royal Garden. Sri Lankan food is relatively unknown in London and what better way to get into the spirit of the Sri Lanka versus England cricket matches this summer than by experiencing some authentic Sri Lankan cuisine.”
The Sri Lanka buffet will cost £25.00 per head and will be available from 6.30pm – 10.30pm every day between 15 – 25 June 2006.
