Did you know…

  • Supasweets are a relatively new arrival on the UK vegetable scene. They were launched in the UK in 2002, the result of a three year DEFRA Hortlink project to develop a sweet, British grown onion.
  • Supasweets don’t make you cry when preparing them and their mild onion flavour means that they don’t linger on the breath!
  • Supasweet onions are delicious eaten fresh; they have a crunchy texture and a delicate, sweet flavour.
  • They are perfect for using raw on sandwiches, in salads and salsas, or lightly cooked in stir fries, quiches and tarts, as pizza toppings or grilled on the barbeque.
  • Because they can be eaten raw, the heart disease preventing Sulphur compounds in Supasweet are still active.
  • Supasweets should be refrigerated to ensure maximum freshness and flavour.
  • The UK Supasweet season runs from July until October.
  • Supasweets will be available in Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Marks & Spencer and Budgens stores until October 2006.
