A Decade Of Cake
Farmhouse Cookery is celebrating a decade of baking the ultimate local speciality – the Sussex Fruit Cake.
The family-run business is committed to using local ingredients, local people and local suppliers to give their cakes have as much regional distinction as possible. Even the flour is ground at a traditional working water mill.
All the fruit is soaked in strong local cider and the ingredients are measured and mixed by hand to guarantee the perfect consistency and firmness. The cake contains no artificial additives and best of all, it’s fat free!
Based in the picturesque village of Bosham, on the South Coast near Chichester, Farmhouse Cookery is one of many small companies which supply Waitrose as part of its Locally Produced scheme.
It was founded by Gina Burt in her kitchen, but is now run by her son, Jason, who took over when she retired in 2004. Such has been the success of this local gem, he has since relocated to a larger converted outbuilding and now has a team of 24 staff.
