Sniffing For Truffles At Harvey Nics

Sniffing For Truffles At Harvey NicsOn Saturday 12 November 2005, the most beautiful Tuscan Truffles will be auctioned in Cafaggiolo Castle, the ancient residence of the Medici family in Florence, directly connected live via satellite with the Fifth Floor Restaurant in London’s Harvey Nichols and a venue in Munich.

Truffle lovers will have the opportunity to bid on this year’s finest selection of Tuscan White Truffles at an exclusive three-course truffle dinner at Fifth Floor Restaurant, Knighstbridge.  Tickets are £200 per person and include a selection of Tuscan wines to match the dinner and live opera performances. All profits from the evening will be donated to Hope for the Children Charity. Tickets can be purchased via www.harveynichols.com or T. 0207 235 5250.

At last year’s International Auction of the Tuscan Truffle, attended by Gwyneth Paltrow, Paul McCartney, Elle McPherson and Mick Jagger, a London buyer paid a record £28,000 for a 1.08-gram white truffle.  This year the heat is on to beat 2004’s record, and organisers anticipate that the Italians and Germans will bid in advance of £30,000 in order to beat the English competition.
