Taking Colour Psychology into Account when Painting Your Kitchen

Black, white, brown, blue, green, or yellow, what would be the best hue to paint on your cooking area's and dining room's wall? Well, that depends on what pigment you think is best.

But, of course, keep in mind that choosing colours for these important areas in the home should not be based on taste and preference alone. You should also take into consideration their impact on the overall look of your house's interior and, most especially, your mood and appetite.

Yes, hues do have an effect on us psychologically and physiologically, so be careful with what you choose.

Blue – A favourite of both genders, this hue is relaxing and soothing to the eyes and mind. It makes people feel at ease and calm. This is the reason why it is intuitively used in most bedrooms. Blue is also considered as a cool and clean shade that is why it is most preferred in the bathroom and laundry area. It, however, works less in the kitchen because it can suppress the appetite. Perhaps, this has something to do with nature's lack of blue food. The colour is simply an oddity to nature, thus as a result, the brain does not recognise it as a healthy eatable. If you are dieting, you might find this hue favourable.

Red – This is the exact opposite of the latter. It is capable of increasing blood pressure and pulse rate. People, in general, have a strong emotion reaction to this colour; it creates energy and heat. What is more, it stimulates the appetite. So, it should not come as a surprise that most restaurants have their walls painted in this shade.

Green – More associated with nature and serenity, this one creates a tranquil ambiance. The lighter tints of which are so much easier to live with; they can make any place appear peaceful and more in tune with nature. Thus, if you are looking for a pleasant dining experience, place your bet on this.

Knowing how hues can affect your eating habit and experience is important when designing your kitchen. So, make sure that you understand what each pigment entails before you apply them on your walls.
