Only a few can admit to not being tempted by the irresistible bite of carbonated liquid, the sweetness of milkshakes, or the delights of fermented brews. Some even find it hard to part ways with these. Keeping yourself fit, however, does not necessarily mean being sentenced to a life of bland food and boring thirst quenchers. Here are some tasty but safer alternatives:

  • Seltzers
  • Available in various flavours, these beverages still has the bite of sodas but without the excessive quantities of sugar. You can add a slice of lemon or lime to give it a nice twist.

  • Non-alcoholic wines
  • Despite having less than 1 percent of its supposedly active agent present, these are still considered healthier choices since the negative effects of the intoxicating compound have been removed.

  • Smoothies
  • Made by blending low-fat yoghurt, ice, skimmed milk, water and a fruit of your choice, these creamy concoctions are high in calcium and nutrients.

  • Sports drinks
  • While being slightly sweet with less the calories, these have an important advantage of being able to replenish the fluid lost in the course of physical exertions. The electrolytes contained in these refreshments help rehydrate the body.

  • Fruit and vegetable juices
  • These pertain to the squeezed types that contain bits of pulp, letting you know it is indeed 100% real. They are packed with vitamins and antioxidants.

  • Green tea
  • Hailed as the better substitute to coffee, studies have shown these to help regulate blood pressure, prevent some kinds of cancers, and even has anti-ageing properties. You can put some zest when you have a cup of this by adding mint leaves or lemon wedges.

Most of all, the best alternative is water. With the aforementioned options, let's make a toast to good health!
