Another glass, please... - Belgars’ Fruit Wine
Review by Caroline Lashley

The wine bottles arrived, they got open and yes, they went down very well – Belgars’ Fruit Wines (in blackcurrant, raspberry and peach) were quaffed with some relish by me and my parents over Sunday lunch and a mid-week dinner.

Drink... Taste Test: Another glass, please... - Belgars’ Fruit Wine

On opening, we pretended to be posh wine connoisseurs: we sniffed the bouquet of all the wines (divine, because they actually smelt like the fruit itself!), we observed the level of fizz (these were supposed to be slightly sparkling but frankly they all had enough “pop” for traditional Cava-style wines), and yes, indeed, they were all very, very nice…

Dad knocked back two glasses each of the blackcurrant and raspberry – clearly no hesitation on his part or Mum’s for that matter as she thoroughly enjoyed them all and I found them very refreshing and quite light for sparkling.

The blackcurrant wine went well with my mid-week dinner of spare ribs, roasties and stir-fry vegetables while the raspberry was (in our humble opinion) a lovely accompaniment with our Sunday lunch of roast chicken, rice and salad. The peach wine, for its part, disappeared down our collective throats in front of the TV watching one of those same-old repeats.

Certainly, this collection of fruit wines got no complaints from us (except that there wasn’t enough!) and is more than ideal for that naughty glass with breakfast in bed (or have you forgotten Valentine’s Day is looming!) if you’re thinking along those lines or as an indulgent pleasure with friends over lunch as well as dinner… So with that in mind, enjoy!
