Reserve de Sours Sparkling rosé
Written by Jane O’Connor

2007 was a very good vintage for Bordeaux rosé wines and Reserve de Sours, Bordeaux’s finest sparkling rosé, is no exception.

Taste Test: Reserve de Sours Sparkling rosé

A salmon pink and aesthetically pleasing rosé wine, the nose is fresh and
subtle with a hint of berry fruits. Crisp and fresh on the palate, berry
fruits like raspberry comes through and I could even taste strawberry there
too. The bubbles are very fine, delicate and seem to last forever.

A blend of 50% Merlot and 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, this is one for those who
despise even a whiff of sweetness in their wine. It starts off very dry
indeed but, as I pleasantly discovered, becomes slightly less so as I drank
on.

This is a grown up rosé that takes itself a bit seriously and is not to be
confused with the giggly headed pink tops of the sweeter variety. It could
even silence those wine snobs who would have us believe that rosé is the
less refined cousin of Mr Red and Mrs White.

No need to wait for summer to crack this one open. Because of its acidity,
it holds its own against the richer and fattier foods, and compliments fish
and seafood perfectly. And at around £8.99 a bottle, it won't break the
bank.

Serve well chilled, sit back and glug merrily away.
