Whisky Drinkers Toast The Arrival Of A New Glenfiddich

Whisky Drinkers Toast The Arrival Of A New GlenfiddichGlenfiddich Single Malt Whisky, distributed in the UK by independent drinks distributor First Drinks Brands, is launching a limited edition Glenfiddich Toasted Oak Reserve 12 Year Old across the UK for Christmas 2006.

The Glenfiddich Malt Master, David Stewart, carefully hand-selected casks whose toasted interior had released a distinct amount of vanillin from the wood leading to a rich, gently spiced, sweet vanilla aroma from the whisky.

The 195 litre barrels, which had been used to mature American whiskey before being shipped to Scotland and filled with Glenfiddich, are the smallest standard casks used to store Scotch whisky.  As such, there is more interaction between the wood and the spirit leading to richer caramel toffee flavour with spicy vanilla oakiness in a long lingering finish.

After the contents of the casks were vatted together, the single malt whisky was refilled into casks for a three month marrying period to ensure consistency throughout the small batch production prior to bottling.

Commenting on the new Glenfiddich Toasted Oak Reserve single malt Scotch whisky, David Stewart said: "In recent years, we have come a long way in understanding the impact wood has on the final flavour of maturing spirit.  Glenfiddich Toasted Oak Reserve really reflects this knowledge as only casks that have given the perfect vanilla and oak flavour to the spirit have been selected for this bottling."

The Glenfiddich range of single malt Scotch whiskies include the Glenfiddich Special Reserve 12 Year Old, Glenfiddich Solera Reserve 15 Year Old, Glenfiddich Ancient Reserve 18 Year Old, Glenfiddich Gran Reserva 21 Year Old, Glenfiddich 30 Year Old and a number of rare whiskies and limited editions.  The range recently won four Gold Medals at the International Wine & Spirit Competition and a Trophy for Glenfiddich Ancient Reserve.
