More Medals For Meantime At Supermarket Oscars

Meantime Go To The Front Of The Q More Medals For Meantime At Supermarket OscarsGreenwich based Meantime Brewing Company had two beers entered into the supermarket industry annual awards competition and both beers came top of their class.

The brewing industry’s rising star accounted for two of the five trophies scooped up by J Sainsbury Plc in the Q Drink Awards 2006, widely regarded as the Oscars of the retail industry. Winning the lager category with its Taste the Difference Cologne Style Lager and the speciality beer category with Taste the Difference Bavarian Style Wheat Beer helped Sainsbury’s claim top drinks retailer status.

Formerly known as the Quality Food and Drink Awards, and now in its 27th year, the Q Awards have this year seen the number of entries rise by 150%.
Meantime Brewmaster and founder Alastair Hook said. “We are delighted to have helped Sainsbury’s pick up these awards. We have enjoyed a wonderful relationship with them since we first became their exclusive Taste the Difference beer suppliers in 2002. They have shown great faith in us from day one and we have always been very proud of the national distribution that supplying Sainsbury’s premium own brand range has given us.

“We believe that together we have turned around the image of own brand beer from being seen to be at the low quality, discounted end of the market to where it is now, namely leading the sector in terms of innovation and consumer education.

“Taste the Difference Munich Oktoberfest Beer and Taste the Difference Vienna Style Lager were the only British beers to win medals at the World Beer Cup in 2004, meaning that four of Sainsbury’s own brand beers have now won major awards. We shall have to win a medal for our Raspberry Beer soon to give Sainsbury’s a full house of award winners.”
